AUSTRALIAN actor and singer Jason Donovan will be performing in Malvern next week as a musical classic comes to town.

Famed for his role as Scott Robinson in Australian soap Neighbours and Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Donovan is to star in a major new production of Irving Berlin’s ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ at Malvern Theatres.

The show will be performed at the Grange Road venue between Tuesday, July 29 and Saturday, August 2. Donovan will perform on the first four dates but not on its final date (August 2).

Donovan will play the role of Frank Butler in this new version of the classic Broadway smash-hit which will also feature twice Olivier nominated star of Chitty, Chitty, Bang Bang Emma Williams as well as fellow actor Norman Pace who most recently starred in the West End production of Chicago.

The show, presented by the Ambassador Theatre Group, tells the legendary story of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West female sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her romance with fellow sharpshooter Frank Butler.

When Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show comes to town, it only takes one glance for sharp-shooting country girl Annie Oakley to fall head over heels for its star marksman, Frank Butler. Both have truly met their match, revealing their competitive natures as they vie for best shot – and each other’s hearts.

The show will feature classic songs including there’s ‘No Business Like Show Business’ and ‘Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better’.

Donovan said; “I’ve been very lucky in having some great roles to get my teeth into in the past, but now having the chance to star in the UK premiere production of this award-winning version of such a classic musical is very exciting.

“I’m very much looking forward to performing such brilliant songs and appearing alongside a truly great cast as we bring the Wild West to theatres across the country.”

Shows start at 7.30pm with matinée performances also taking place on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday starting at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost between £29.68 and £42 and are available by calling the Malvern Theatres Box Office on 01684 892277 or visiting www.malvern-theatres.co.uk.
