Malvern Hills to come alive with The Sound of Music

Malvern Editorial 21st Jan, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

ONE OF the greatest family musicals of all time is heading to Malvern to bring the hills alive with the sound of music.

Bill Kenwright’s production of the classic ‘The Sound of Music’ will be performed at Malvern Theatres from Tuesday, February 2 to Saturday, February 6.

BBC One’s The Voice runner-up Lucy O’Byrne will star as Maria and award-winning Scottish actor Gray O’Brien will play Captain von Trapp, as they both make their musical theatre debuts in this spectacular five star production.

The plot follows the true inspiring tale of the world famous singing family, from their romantic beginnings and search for happiness, to their thrilling escape to freedom as their beloved Austria becomes part of the Third Reich at the start of the Second World War.

The unforgettable score features some of the most memorable songs ever performed on stage, including ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, ‘So Long, Farewell’ and of course, the title song, ‘The Sound of Music’.

Produced by Kenwright, directed by Martin Connor, choreographed by Olivier Award winner Bill Deamer, this wonderfully lavish staging of the classic musical coincides with the 50th anniversary of the film version – the most successful movie musical in history.

The event will run each evening from 7.30pm and at 2.30pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Tickets range from £28 to £44.24.
