Action group set up to tackle dog mess in Upton

A NEW action group is being set up to help reduce ‘ridiculous’ amounts of dog poo being left on the roads of Upton-upon-Severn.

Resident Jill Ecclestone has got so fed up with seeing the site of dog mess in parts of the town, she has decided to start the ‘task force’ group whose actions could lead to irresponsible dog owners being prosecuted if caught not cleaning up their pets mess.

Speaking to the Observer, the 56-year-old said the group was being launched following months of frustration while out and about in Upton.

“I’m sick of seeing dog mess in Upton. It’s ruining the town and it’s time it came to a stop,” she said.

“It’s ridiculous and you can spot it everywhere in the town centre. It is even worse when there have been floods.

“I have a dog myself so I’m not anti-dogs at all but this has gone on long enough. It’s causing major issues.”

The group, which has a dedicated Facebook Page titled ‘Dog Mess in Upton-upon-Severn, met for the first time last Tuesday to discuss an action plan moving forward.

A post on the group’s Facebook page reads: “Failure to pick up after your dog may result in you being photographed by one of the Upton task force members.

“They will pass on your details to Malvern Hills District Council who will in turn pass your details on for prosecution!”

Mrs Ecclestone has gained support from Upton Town Council with councillors backing her efforts to clean the town up.

“The group is not just about cleaning the town up but it’s raising awareness to dog owners on their responsibility to clean up,” she added.

“There are some very responsible dog owners out there but there are ones who do not clean up.”
