TWO ELDERLY men suffered injuries and were taken to hospital following a crash between a car and a lorry in Cradley, near Malvern.

The collision happened at just after 2pm at the junction of the A4103 and B4220 at Stony Cross yesterday (Wednesday).

But ambulance staff said the crash could have been much worse as the lorry went into a brick wall before crushing a trampoline located on the other side of the wall.

Paramedics said if someone had been on the trampoline at the time of the crash then there they could have been a serious tragedy.

Two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham were sent to the scene follolwing the crash between a silver Peugeot 106 and a green and cream Iveco lorry.

A man in his 70s – the front seat passenger in the car – suffered serious chest injuries as well as abasions. He was treated at the secne and immobilised before being airlifted to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The driver of the car, a man in his 80s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a precaution. The lorry driver was uninjured.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival crews found a car that had lost most of the bonnet. There was also a lorry that had front end damage which had ended up in a brick wall.

“The man driving the lorry was not injured. However, the situation could have been very different. A trampoline that was just behind the wall the lorry collided with had been crushed. Had there been anyone on it the situation could have been very serious.”

West Mercia Police are also appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 337S of September 21.
