CANNABIS plants with the potential to fetch up to £25,000 on the street have been seized during a morning raid by police.

Ten officers descended on a mobile home in Bastonford, Powick, just before 9am yesterday (Tuesday, October 21) and forced entry to the property by using lock snappers on a side door.

Nine cannabis plants were seized and a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

Local officers were joined by Proactive CID and sniffer dogs during the search which came about as a result of information from the public and was conducted as part of the larger Operation Fuchsia.

The suspect was asleep when police arrived at the address but did resist arrest when he was woken up.

The cannabis plants were found in a bedroom and separate cannabis bush worth £750 was discovered in the kitchen.

Cultivation equipment was also found at the home and has now been destroyed along with the drugs.

Det Sgt Dave Knight of Proactive CID said: “The cultivation, sale and use of cannabis has a detrimental effect on society.

“Some users will commit acquisitive crime to fund their habit. We are executing more warrants like this. People who cultivate or deal drugs have nowhere to hide.

“We will continue working with the public to keep the streets of Worcester free of drugs.”
