Colwall villagers set for one big weekend party

Malvern Editorial 14th Jul, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

EXCITEMENT is building in Colwall as the village prepares for its biggest party in recent times.

The Colwall Church and Ale House Festival returns to the village calendar this weekend and is back by popular demand following the success of its first event two years ago.

A fun day is in store on Saturday on what promises to be a fabulous day out for all the family.

The festival will raise much needed funds not only for the Church of St James The Great and its medieval Ale House, but also presenting an opportunity for local community groups and charities to raise their own funds.

The festival day will begin with a peal of church bells at 11am followed by the arrival of the Classic Car Cavalcade.

Throughout the day there will be great local produce in the Food and Drinks Fair and amazing work in the Arts and Crafts Market. There will be plenty to eat and drink for everyone – with a hog roast and all-day barbecue and an all-day bar.

Activities will take place in abundance from Archery to the fun and wild Wheelbarrow racing and much more.

The Red Barrows Display team will also be wowing the crowds having taken out time out to rehearse in a secret location before the big day.

On the eve of the festival (Friday) there will be a special ‘Flicks in the Sticks’ showing at Colwall Village Hall ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’, and on Sunday 17 there will be a special service of Thanksgiving and an opportunity to picnic in the beautiful grounds with a special singing workshop taking place in the afternoon.

Phil Hitchen, Festival Organiser said: “I must acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the army of people who have contributed to make the festival possible.

“In particular we are so grateful to those fantastic people who work behind the scenes and before, during and after the event. Spare a thought for them as we enjoy the festival!”

Entry costs £3 for adults with children under 16 allowed in free of charge.
