Dog mess and parking discussed during latest police webchat

Malvern Editorial 17th Oct, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

DOG MESS and thoughtless parking proved to be the hot topics during this month’s online PACT meeting.

More than half a dozen Malvern police officers and a member of the district council’s street scene team took part in the latest webchat answering a whole range of enquiries ranging from the need for tax disks to the next appearance of force mascot Peeler.

Several residents raised concerns about irresponsible dog owners not cleaning up after their pets, particularly at Jamaica Road, Malvern Link and along the riverfront in Upton.

Brett Jarman, from MHDC Street Scene team, assured people the reports would be looked into but stressed how difficult it was to catch the perpetrators in action and urged the need for residents to speak up and pass on information.

However one person from the Wyche area said a CCTV camera had all but eradicated the problem in one particular hot spot although it was suspected the offender was now causing the same headache at Peachfield Road.

Mr Jarman was also on hand to warn people could still be fined for fly tipping even if they had paid someone to take rubbish away for them, in response to one question.

He explained residents had a duty of care to ensure waste was removed by an authorised waste carrier and that all the relevant paperwork was filled in.

The recent knife attack incident at The Chase was also a major talking point at the beginning of the session. PCSO Steve Freeman also explained that some high school students were being encouraged not to walk through parts of Great Malvern School in the interest of safety for the younger pupils.
