Excitement hots up as first ever Malvern Soup fast approaches

EXCITEMENT is hotting up as Malvern prepares to host a popular worldwide community-funding scheme event for the first time.

Four individuals or groups will be bidding to secure vital funding needed to kick start or further develop a local project this Sunday at Malvern Cube between 3pm and 6pm.

The idea behind the Soup project is that people pay a set amount at the door, usually £4, and are given a bowl of soup, and can bring other food with them to share, if they choose to do so.

Locally Worcester Soup is in its second year after a successful start and now Malvern’s own promoters are putting their final preparations together ahead of Sunday’s launch.

The three-hour event will be a family day out with space for children to play, and plenty of tea and cake, as well as two varieties of soup.

The crowd-funding event is aimed at local projects, not necessarily charitable but focussed to benefit Malvern in some way or form.

Each project has an opportunity to present its aims and ideas and has the chance to win the takings from the door.

The presentations will be short, each one limited to four minutes only, and visitors can discuss each project with the presenters before the formal part of the event begins.

Malvern Soup founder and resident Chris Reed said: “We’ve had a lot of interest from local projects.

“There are no electronic devices, no power point presentations, it is a very simple format in which the backers of Malvern projects talk to the people of Malvern.

“We didn’t know what to expect and we’ve been absolutely delighted at the number of people who have expressed an interest, and at the range of projects applying for funding.

“Without giving away who has been chosen to present there are projects of interest to everyone, from the very young to those of advancing years.

“We’re expecting an excellent crowd at the weekend so come along and be part of the soup phenomenon!
