SPORTING fever is set to sweep through the county when a campaign launches this week.
A host of high-profile sporting events will be held in Worcestershire over the next few months.
This has led county council bosses to create the #60daysofsport campaign which aims to get residents, local businesses and communities activity.
To help kick off the 60 days, an opening ceremony will take place at New Road in Worcester on Saturday, August 22 when U19s England take on Australia for a One Day International.
The county will also play host to the European Wheelchair Basketball at Worcester Arena between August 28 and September 6, the 10k run-bike-run on September 20, and the Aviva Tour Ride October 4.
The campaign will then draw to a close at Sixways Stadium on October 15 when Worcester Warriors will play their first game of the season against Northampton Saints.
Coun Ian Hopwood, chairman of Worcestershire County Council, said the campaign was a great incentive for residents and businesses alike to get involved in sport.
“We all know that sport brings communities together and this is exactly what this campaign is all about,” he said.
“We have some world class sporting events in Worcestershire and we are keen to get everyone involved.”
Gary Woodman, executive director at the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, added: “With a plethora of sporting events scheduled, the #60daysofsport will undoubtedly provide a boost to the local economy and attract increased visitor numbers.
“I would also encourage local businesses to get involved through workplace challenges, attending events or capitalise on the many sponsorship opportunities available, as well as considering other opportunities that these high-profile sporting events could provide to your business.”
