A RESHUFFLE of the Conservative leadership team at Worcestershire County Council has seen Coun John Smith moved from his Highways department role.

County Council Leader Coun Simon Geraghty has reshuffled a number of positions in his cabinet following the resignation of John Campion after he became West Mercia’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

The changes include Coun Smith, county councillor for Evesham North West, becoming Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Health and Well Being- with Coun Marcus Hart replacing him as Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways.

Coun Andy Roberts has been brought into the Cabinet as the Member with Responsibility for Transformation and Commissioning, and Coun Marc Bayliss takes over from Campion as the Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Children and Families.

Speaking to the Observer following the reshuffle, Coun Smith said: “I’ve been in the role for about 10 years in total, seven years on the trot and three years before my year as chairman.

“Simon called and said he’d like to reshuffle the cabinet to give it a fresh new look and asked if I would mind moving and I said yes.”

Aside from the changes, the rest of the cabinet remains the same with Coun Anthony Blagg remaining Deputy Leader whilst retaining his responsibility for the Environment, Coun Lucy Hodgson retains responsibility for Localism and Communities and Coun Sheila Blagg continues in her role as the Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Adult Social Care.
