GREAT Malvern is set to be filled with the sounds of modern and contemporary jazz this weekend.

A variety of venues around the centre will be hosting bands on September 19 and 20 following the success of the first Malvern Jazz Weekend held over Easter this year as part of the event run by Malvern Hills District Council and Pulse Great Malvern.

Coun Phil Grove, responsible for economic development at the council, said: “Great Malvern is looking forward to welcoming the smooth sounds of jazz to the town again.

“The event over Easter was very popular and we’re hoping this weekend will be more so as the word spreads. We are delighted to be supporting this and other events that help to bring vibrancy and footfall to our town centres.”

On Friday (September 19), the line up features Appleby Kinsey at The Red Lion at 8pm, The Groove Front at The Great Malvern Hotel at 9pm and the Simon Day Septet at Oliver’s Wine Bar at 9.30pm.

The following day (September 20), Trevor Emeny Trio will play at Belle Vue Island at 12pm, Malvern Big Band at the same venue at 2.30pm and Madi Stimpson Duo at Belle Vue Delicatessen and Café Bar at 5pm.

Also The Latin Explosion with Maxine Bocock at The Red Lion at 8pm, Mrs Peel Jazz at The Great Malvern Hotel at 9pm and Bex Latin Jazz at Oliver’s Wine Bar at 9.30pm.
