A JEALOUS lover caused more than £1,000 worth of damage to a car belonging to his ex-girlfriend’s new partner in a rage over their relationship, a court has heard.

Ashley Dunn, of Skyrrold Road in Malvern, pleaded guilty to the criminal damage of a Fiat Punto belonging to Aaron Mason when he attended Worcester Magistrates Court last Friday (December 12).

The 25-year-old, along with another offender, went to his former lover’s address on October 9 and when he saw Mr Mason’s company vehicle the pair ‘significantly damaged it’, the court heard.

The court was told the Punto received a smashed windscreen, damaged windows and wing mirrors, both number plates were taken and either side of the car was dented.

Dunn, who was given a 12-month community order earlier this month, was handed another 12-month order and told to complete 50 hours of unpaid work.

Defending solicitor Barry Newton said: “The catalyst to this offence was the break up of their relationship.

“It was a long-standing relationship of five years and while the complainant says my client’s relationship finished six months before, the problem was Mr Mason had been seeing her during the time my client thought he was in a happy relationship with her.

“He was medicated for depression and by his own admission was drinking a lot and drinking quite heavily.”

Dunn was also ordered to pay £500 compensation and a £60 victim surcharge.
