Jewellery targeted in spate of Ledbury and Colwall break-ins

A STRING of burglaries has sparked a police appeal for residents to be vigilant.

There were two incidents within 24 hours of each other on Biddulph Way in Ledbury at the end of September.

Between 7.40pm on Friday, September 26 and 9am the next day, someone forced entry to a house, searched the property and stole several porcelain figures.

Then between 6pm and 11.45pm on Saturday, September 27, a second house was targeted in the street where thieves again forced entry and took jewellery and brass figures.

More recently, a burglary took place on Bank Crescent in Ledbury between 3pm Sunday, October 19 and 12.45pm Thursday, October 23 when again, access to the property was gained by force and jewellery was stolen.

Jewellery was again the target when a property in Colwall, nearby, was broken into between 3pm Sunday, October 19 and 11am the next day.

Following the incidents Det Con Laurence James said: “I would like to reassure the communities of Ledbury and Colwall that Herefordshire is still one of the safest areas to live in the country, which on the whole has a low percentage of dwelling burglaries.

“Please don’t be afraid to call police with anyone acting suspiciously in your area. The police would rather the public call than not. They are the eyes and ears in their community and play a vital part in any investigation. Don’t leave it to someone else to call.”

Police also urged residents to take simple steps which could help prevent a break-in such as leaving lights on when going out as well as the television or radio, looking out for neighbour’s homes when they are away and taking note of any unknown vehicles or strangers in the area.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents listed, should contact police on 101 and ask to speak to DC 3312 Laurence James from the Proactive Team at Hereford Station via the extension 4569.

Alternatively, residents can pass information on anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111.
