THE LANDLORD of a village pub who provoked anger by stopping children entering its bar at night times is to leave his job – despite starting the role just two months ago.
Admiral Taverns, who own the Brewers Arms in West Malvern, has announced new licensees are set to take over the pub after many complained about his new policy.
As The Observer exclusively revealed last week, visitors to the pub were left outraged after landlord Chris Tandy announced on the pub’s Facebook page he was no longer allowing children into the bar at all times.
Mr Tandy, who began as the new landlord of the pub in September, told The Observer last week he made the decision because he was losing ‘good customers’ with children often seen ‘running riot’ inside.
Following numerous complaints online, Mr Tandy then softened his stance by allowing ‘well-behaved’ children until 6pm. But after a meeting held last week between Mr Tandy and Admiral Tavern bosses it was mutually decided for both parties to go their separate ways.
Ali Martinez, business development manager at Admiral Taverns, said comments made on the Facebook page were a factor during the talks.
“I can confirm that we are now looking to recruit new licensees for the Brewers Arms,” he said.
“A routine meeting between myself and the licensees took place last week to discuss a number of things, including comments on the pub’s Facebook page. It was mutually decided that the current licensees will come out of the pub once we have found a suitable replacement.
“We have the best interests of the community at heart and will be looking to recruit someone who shares that ethos.”
The Observer approached Mr Tandy but he refused to comment.
