Malvern charities to benefit in new Co-op scheme

A TRIO of Malvern community groups are set to benefit from £9,000 of funding as part of a new project.

A unique Co-op membership card scheme has been launched today (Wednesday), which will see store members receive a five per cent reward on purchases of Co-op own-branded products and services, with a further one per cent going to local causes.

Community Action Malvern and District, Malvern Special Families and ‘What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful’ have all been enrolled on the new scheme, which will see money raised go to the groups over a six month period.

The membership cards feature the Co-op’s iconic ‘clover-leaf’ design, which was first used in the 1960s and links to how a strong Co-op can help to create a strong community.

Liz Webb, area manager for the Co-op, said: “We aim to do business a better way, so what better way than to give back to communities as a reward for shopping with us.

“Our members have a unique opportunity to make a difference locally simply by using their Co-op card when they shop with us.

“Co-ops are here to support the communities they live in and the money raised will provide much needed funding for organisations who contribute to improving local life.”

Maria Munday, business manager at Malvern Special Families, said: “It’s great to have been chosen by our local Co-op to be part of this exciting new scheme.

“We’re really looking forward to working together to raise funding, so we can continue to provide our much needed short breaks services, for families of children with disabilities in the local area.”
