A FANTASTIC evening saw a number of sportsmen, women and clubs recognised at this year’s Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards.
In total, 63 inspiring individuals, teams and groups were nominated for recognition for their achievements both on and off the field in 13 categories, smashing last year’s previous record which stood at just more than 50.
The winners of the categories, which included Unsung Hero, Male Sports Personality of the Year and Inclusive Project of the Year, were presented with their awards at Malvern College last night (Thursday).
Kicking off the celebrations were Samba band ‘Someone at the Door’ who entertained the 200 guests at the venue for the event, which was sponsored by UK Flood Barriers and organised by Malvern Hills District Council for the sixth year running.
The Olympic theme continued as guest speaker Katrina Hart, who was a key part of the Great Britain Paralympics team that won bronze in the 4x100m T37 relay at London 2012, took to the stage to talk about her career.
Coun David Watkins, portfolio holder for healthier communities on Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Tonight highlighted the sporting talent and commitment we have here in our district.
“We must also commend the hidden army too. The friends and families of those who help people participate in sport.”
