Malvern residents urged to keep neighbourhoods pristine

RESIDENTS across Malvern are being urged to help keep their neighbourhoods pristine by taking part in a nationwide campaign this weekend.

The Community Clean-up Day is being run on Saturday (March 21) by Malvern Hills District Council, in conjunction with Keep Britain Tidy.

Residents and businesses will take part in helping spruce up their much-loved villages, parks, residential and business areas.

MHDC is offering individuals and organisations the use of their community kits, which include litter pickers, black sacks, gloves and hi-vis vests. MHDC will also arrange all the bags to be collected after the event.

A MHDC spokesperson said the latest figures suggested councils in England alone spent more than £800million every year on street cleaning.

And, she added, projects like the one taking place in Malvern this weekend could, potentially, free up cash which could be spent on other vital public services.

Coun Bronwen Behan, portfolio holder for environmental services said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring people and communities together, getting out and about in the fresh air, whilst making a difference to these attractive areas we live in.

“Local residents have a great pride in where they live, and by taking part in this rewarding activity their small actions can transform local areas and spaces so people can continue the enjoyment of our beautiful towns and countryside.”
