PEOPLE with learning disabilities in Malvern are set to benefit from vital equipment thanks to a £1,000 donation.
The Santander Foundation pumped the money into Malvern Mencap Society to help fund indoor and outdoor items to introduce the learning disabled to social and leisure activities which will assist their individual and community development.
Computers, karaoke, games and craft supplies could all be provided.
Mike Bowker, vice chairman of the society, said: “We are about to arrange day services in the scout headquarters in Malvern Link, to replace some activities being moved to Worcester when the Social Education Centre in Geraldine Road is closed by the county council.
“This will prevent people with learning difficulties, some severely handicapped, spending two hours in minibuses each day.
“It was precisely for this reason that Worcestershire County Council opened day services in the Malvern centre 34 years ago.”
The Santander Foundation helps registered charities which aid disadvantaged members of the community, something Mencap has been doing for 61 years in the local area.
Hollie Stentiford, at Santander’s Malvern branch, added: “Every year the Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations to good causes throughout the UK.
“Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting Malvern Mencap.
“We hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
