MALVERN Rugby Club has played tribute to the life of legendary New Zealand star Jonah Lomu who passed away earlier this week.

The world of rugby was shocked on Wednesday after it was announced Lomu, known to millions for his incredible fast pace and his ability to storm past opponents with ease, had died at the age of 40.

Lomu made more than 60 appearances for the All Blacks and burst onto the scene with dominant displays in the 1995 World Cup including scoring four tries which helped his side to a semi-final win against England.

He had been suffering from a rare kidney disorder prior to his death.

Malvern Rugby Club director David Irish said he was an ‘inspiration’ to the sport and his achievements in the game will be remembered forever.

“We learned with great sadness of the death of Jonah Lomu at such a young age,” he said.

“He was an inspiration to players of all ages and certainly helped to bring many youngsters into the game when he was at his peak as an All Black.

“Our thoughts are with his young family at this time as they come to terms with their loss.

“Rest in peace, Big Man – you left memories which will never be forgotten by those lucky enough to have seen you play.”
