A DEVELOPER which vowed to fix ‘dangerous’ roads and paths on a Malvern estate by the end of 2014 has now confirmed improvement work will not even begin until March.
As reported by the Observer in November, Persimmon Homes came under heavy criticism from residents in Malvern Vale who claimed they had put up with the problems for years.
Locals feared the issues, which included uneven road surfaces, steep kerbs and poorly maintained speed bumps, would only get worse as the cold weather took hold.
Malvern’s MP Harriett Baldwin waded into the matter which prompted the developer to pledge the works would be completed by Christmas, but as the new year has come and gone the issues still remain.
Mrs Baldwin has again pressed Persimmon to resolve the problems but they have now stated nothing will be done for more than month.
Andy Peters, managing director at the firm, said they were in talks with Malvern Hills District Council last week to agree a strategy to complete infrastructure works on the estate.
He confirmed the developer had also resolved an issue with Worcestershire County Council after work at the entrance to Malvern Vale had to be halted in December because it was on council land.
Mr Peters added speed bumps would be removed along the main road of the site while contractors were currently carrying out improvements at the back of the development working towards the main points of access.
“It is anticipated that the work on site will re-commence in March and be completed as soon as possible to avoid any further inconvenience to existing residents.” he added.
Following the latest setback Mrs Baldwin declared she would be writing to Persimmon as well as Severn Trent which are also involved in the dispute.
“It is clearly disappointing the roads in Malvern Vale have not been completed and Persimmon Homes have not been able to keep their promise,” she said.
“I have been briefed by the county council that there is a problem formally getting the roads adopted and handed over and I hope this issue will be resolved as quickly as possible.”
