Morgan Motor Company to help engineers of the future in university deal

MALVERN’S famous Morgan Motor Company has teamed up with students at the University of Wolverhampton to help them gear up for a future in engineering.

The link-up deal follows the university’s £12million investment to provide its engineering students with top of the range equipment and education at its Telford Innovation Campus, Priorslee.

The collaboration will see the university and family-owned independent and innovative British motor manufacturer teaming up to provide educational programmes, research and development sessions and motor racing outings.

Members of the University of Wolverhampton Race Team will have the opportunity to work alongside craftsmen on a plethora of Morgan vehicles as well as getting involved in the annual AR Motorsport Morgan Challenge – a one-make race series for racing Morgans sponsored by AR Motorsport.

Steve Morris, Morgan Motor Company’s managing director, said: “Morgan cars have been built locally in Worcestershire since 1909 and each car celebrates traditional manufacture whilst embracing modern design.

“Without a doubt the combined expertise of craftsmanship working alongside engineering students on a number of projects will bring added benefits to both parties whilst affording students an invaluable insight into the world of car manufacturing and racing.”

As part of the partnership agreement, the two parties held a special race day yesterday (Tuesday) at Morgan Motors HQ on Pickersleigh Road – the first of many exchanges between students and the Malvern firm.

Professor Ian Oakes, deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Wolverhampton, added: “This exciting new partnership with Morgan complements our Formula Three race activities, allowing the students a glimpse into the world of car manufacturing which focuses on traditional craftsmanship coupled with modern design and engineering innovation.

“From an employability perspective, this partnership will provide an outstanding opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the automotive industry.”
