THE UNITED Kingdom will be ‘redouble its efforts’ to protect itself from terrorist attacks, according to Malvern’s MP.

Harriett Baldwin has assured residents more will be done by the Government to secure the country following the tragic events in Paris last Friday night (November 13). At least 129 people were killed and hundreds wounded after gunmen and suicide bombers hit a number of sites in the French capital.

Mrs Baldwin said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with all the people of Paris who have been affected by the terrible terrorist atrocity.

“Our Government will redouble its efforts to wipe out this poisonous extremist ideology and will step up its focus on securing the United Kingdom against attacks of this kind.”

The flag at the top of the Council House was flown at half mast and a minute’s silence was also held at 11am on Monday (November 16) to remember the victims of Friday’s attacks.

Coun Phil Grove, leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We were proud to stand united with the people of Paris by observing a minute’s silence.

“The events of the weekend horrified us all and our thoughts go out to the families of the victims and their loved ones.”
