Music with a folk tale twist in store

MALVERN residents are being invited to hear stories and tales from internationally-acclaimed musicians, with a folk twist.

The free performance from northern folk experimentalists and multi-instrumentalists, Harp and a Monkey, will take place at the town’s Carnival Records on Saturday (October 17).

Regulars on the festival circuit, the trio proved a huge hit when they last visited Malvern two years ago as part of the annual National Record Store Day celebrations, and have a reputation as one of the UK’s leading purveyors of melodic folk music.

Martin Purdy, the band’s frontman said: “We perform a mixture of traditional and original material that often takes the form of short stories set to song.

“It’s really exciting to be coming back to Malvern, although we usually end up being out of pocket as Carnival Records is definitely one of the best independent record shops in Britain.”

Chris Heard, owner of Carnival Records, said: “We’re always keen to welcome our favourite northern folkies to the shop.

“The people of the Malvern Hills have found a true affinity with the band’s warm and witty pastoral sensibilities.”

The band will perform two sets from 2pm and 3.15pm.
