MORE than 2,000 people came along to the Malvern Outdoor Festival this weekend.

The event was formally opened by Mayor Julian Roskams at 12midday on Sunday (July 20) and there were activities and entertainment right through until 7pm at Victoria Park.

The main attractions were bike, skateboarding and scooter stunt shows as well as rock climbing and a host of lawn-based games to encourage people to become more active outdoors.

Complementing the action were stalls, live music, competitions and a pig roast.

Entry cost £1 on the day and money raised went to paying for the costs of the event as well as supporting Hope Unlimited which helps young people into work.

Tanya Trotman from Malvern Cycles CIC who helped organise the festival, said: “It was really focused on empowering people to get enthused in outdoor activities and I definitely think it was a success in that respect, it was certainly a thought-provoker.

“The bike and scooter displays were really breathtaking, really unbelievable, the things they were doing were staggering.”

She added: “There was something for everyone I saw every different age group their enjoying themselves.”

Tanya also expressed her gratitude to all who volunteered on the day and singled out Debbie Dixon and Andrew Oliver for special praise for helping to collect entry fees.
