WEST Mercia Police have issued out safety advice following the huge popularity of a new mobile phone game which has took the world by storm.
The app lets players roam a map using their phone’s GPS location data and catch Pokemon to train and battle.
Just released in the UK, the game has been talk of the nation with it being a main topic of conversation on social media.
It requires a mobile data connection and a smartphone with GPS, using AR to turn real-world locations into gaming elements.
Players are given one Pokémon to start, but to find more players they must walk streets and parks with their phone active and the app open.
But police officers have warned gamers to be careful while out on the streets and enjoying the game.
On West Mercia’s Facebook page, officers posted: “Please remember that your safety comes before catching that Drowzee or Squirtle! Let someone know where you’re going, be aware of your surroundings and follow all normal road safety advice.
“For grown ups playing – we hope it goes without saying but under no circumstances is it ok to catch Pokémon whilst you’re driving!”
