Police smash into home using chainsaw during Malvern raids

POLICE  staged a dramatic drugs raid at a home in Malvern by breaking through the front door using a chainsaw.

More than half a dozen officers descended on the property in Windsor Close, Newland at about 12 midday earlier today (Thursday) and had cut their way in within seconds of arriving.

The stunned man and woman inside protested angrily before police managed to calm them down.

Both were arrested after traces of Class A drugs and a set of weighing scales were discovered in a car parked opposite the house.

A sniffer dog then entered the home to commence a further in-depth search.

Five other warrants were issued simultaneously in Malvern this morning as 60 officers from Worcestershire and Warwickshire conducted a ‘day of action’ in the town codenamed Operation Obelisk.

Properties in Suckley and Pickersleigh were also among those searched.

Four people in total were arrested on suspicion of theft and drug offences; three men aged 21, 30 and 38, and one woman aged 40. A fifth person was also cautioned for possessing drugs.

Cash, Class A drugs and a motorbike believed to be stolen, were seized during the day.

The operation was carried out to disrupt criminal activity among offenders who ’cause the most harm’ to communities.

Det Sgt Wayne Cashion said: “This is an excellent example of how we are continuing to crack down on these types of offences.

“It is about sending a clear and precise message to those involved in crime and the community at large that if we receive information about criminality we will act upon it.”
