DAVID Cameron has announced he will step down as Prime Minister after the majority of the British people voted to leave the European Union.
The Conservative Leader, who urged Britain to Remain, said a new leader for the Government will be in place by October after he announced new leadership was needed to take Britain in a new direction.
His announcement came on an historic night for the British Islands after Vote Leave won the EU Referendum with a national majority of just over 1.3 million votes.
Vote Leave won with almost 17 and a half million votes (52 per cent) where Remain fell just short with just over 16 million votes.
Locally in Malvern and Herefordshire, the majority of residents opted to leave the EU.
In the Malvern Hills district it was incredibly close as 25,294 voted to Leave with 23,203 voted to Remain. This was from a turnout of 80.6 per cent.
But in Herefordshire there was a clear majority favouring the Leave campaign which received 64,122 votes out of a total of 108,336 votes. The turnout for Herefordshire was 78.36 per cent.
