Safe sex campaign raises Halloween-themed messages

STOPPING the past from spooking you and protecting yourself from a fright are the key messages being spread this Halloween as part of a safe sex campaign.

The dangers of unprotected sex are being highlighted through a series of Halloween posters bearing slogans such as ‘Don’t let your past come back to haunt you’ and ‘No matter how you are dressed this Halloween, wear a condom’.

The aim of the scheme from Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is to encourage residents to visit their closest sexual health clinic for free and confidential advice if they are concerned they may be at risk from a sexual transmitted infection (STI) or need emergency contraception.

Health promotion specialist Kate Wilson said Halloween was becoming an increasingly popular celebration so they had used ‘spooky’ imagery in the hope of getting a serious message across in a light-hearted way.

“The idea is no one should be haunted by their past. In a sexual context this means ensuring that every sexual encounter is as safe, both physically and emotionally, as it can be.

“If someone does want to talk about any aspect of sexual health, including contraception options, relationships or STI testing, they are encouraged to visit a local service.”
