Speed camera set on fire in Leigh Sinton

A SPEED camera has been set on fire near a Malvern village.

The incident happened on Sunday night (August 24) when vandals targeted the fixed unit on the A4103 which enforces the 30mph limit for vehicles going to and from Leigh Sinton.

Fire crews attended the scene about 11.41pm where a tyre had been placed over the camera head and set alight.

The Safer Roads Partnership which is responsible for the camera, confirmed there had been damage to the pole and casing but no offences had been lost because it was a digital unit.

Vicky Bristow, from the partnership, said: “The camera was installed to try and reduce speeds on this road and also help to improve the quality of lives for those people living in this area.

“This selfish and mindless vandalism just wastes emergency services time and money.

“Fortunately this attitude is only present in a minority of individuals who disregard others and attempt to undermine positive action.

“It is unfortunate that someone has taken it upon themselves to disregard these issues.

“We are working towards getting the camera back up and running as soon as we can.”

Malvern Cops tweeted a picture of the singed camera the following day.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 using the crime reference 622 S 250814.
