Station open day reels in the crowds

MALVERN Fire Station was awash with visitors as the site rolled up its shutters for a popular event.

The Worcester Road station opened its doors to town residents on Saturday (July 25) to give people an opportunity to look at the fire engines, examine staff equipment and listen to a host of safety advice.

Youngsters flocked in their dozens as an array of demonstrations took place from 11am until 3pm. They included a ‘smoke tent’ which showed residents what to do and how to escape in the event of a fire.

Representatives from police and the Red Cross, along with fire service mascots Blaze Bear and Welephant, were also there on the day.

Rob Allen, station commander, told The Observer: “We are really pleased we had a fantastic turnout.

“We were very lucky the weather held throughout and we hope those who attended enjoyed seeing their local fire crew in action and understanding the work we do.

“These days are important not just for the young members of the community, but also for adults because it allows them to have an understanding of the job we do but also allows us to show fire safety and get across other safety messages.”
