Have your say on new revolution map

RESIDENTS and visitors to the town have been urged to provide feedback on a project which maps out the entire Malvern Hills in 3D.

The interactive site which utilises computer game software has been in the works since last summer but has now reached the pilot stage for members of the public to try out and submit their views.

By logging onto the web page, users can ‘fly’ over the virtually recreated Malverns by simply gliding the cursor across the screen.

The built-in database then allows people to locate features of the town by clicking on tabs that place markers all over the map.

Currently users can find anything from heritage spots to places to grab a coffee, but the Technology for Tourism group behind the project is eager for people to tell them what they would like to see on the map.

It is also hoped a news feed can be added to highlight temporary events coming up in the town which would also be marked on the map.

Adrian Burden from Key-IQ, a member of the TFT group, said: “The aim is to give visitors and locals more information on the area.

“This should help all those planning a visit here, and, indeed all those who live here and want to see all that goes on.”

Mr Burden added the technology was more advanced than Google Maps and allowed the entire Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to be faithfully recreated in high resolution complete with its dramatic peeks and troughs.

Although the website is currently in the pilot stage he said mobile phone and tablet applications were future possibilities for the technology.

The map which has been commissioned to the Virtual Experience Company, is the inaugural project for the Technology For Tourism group.

The collective, formed about a year ago now, has between 40 and 50 members.

It brings together organisations wishing to promote the Malvern Hills such as the district council and AONB unit with other firms and individuals with a particular technological expertise.

Mr Burden added: “The map is part of the bigger project and demonstrates that this group can work together and use the Malvern Hills as a real life testing area.”
