TWO Malvern choirs will take to the stage alongside one of opera’s finest groups worldwide when they perform their new show at Malvern Theatres this week.

Excited members of Powick Community choir and Malvern Parish C of E Primary School choir will get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform with Tenors Unlimited tonight (Friday) at 7.45pm.

Renowned for being the ‘Rat Pack of Opera’, Tenors Unlimited, consisting of Scott Ciscon, Paul Martin and Jem Sharples, have performed at venues throughout the world to high acclaim. They have also performed live at an FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

Powick Community Choir was formed six years ago, with its members only from the village area. They soon expanded to attract men and women from across south Worcestershire and now have 90 members.

The choir also operates a bursary scheme to help young people in developing their musical skills and each year raises thousands of pounds for local charities.

Musical director Tom Wells, who is also a leading councillor in the Malvern district, has been at the helm of the choir since its inception and under his leadership, the choir has performed at many prestigious local venues including Worcester Cathedral and Pershore Abbey.

Alongside Powick’s choir, pupils from Malvern Parish C of E primary School will also be performing on the big stage.

Rebecca Allen, music co-ordinator from Malvern Parish Primary School, said: “The children in the choir absolutely love singing.

“They enjoy singing all kinds of music especially traditional, gospel and pop music. Their current favourite is Power in Me which raises the roof and brings smiles to everyone’s faces”

Tenors Unlimited’s repertoire includes the ever-popular classics La Donna E Mobile, The Pearl Fishers Duet and Nessun Dorma, as well as songs written by themselves including the title tracks to both of their current albums Brand New Day and Viva La Vita.

Tickets for the show cost from £21.28 and are avilable by visiting www.malvern-theatres.co.uk.
