Warning after elderly man stung by fraudster

RESIDENTS have been warned to stay vigilant after an elderly man was targeted by a bank fraudster.

The 82-year-old man, from Callow End, was contacted on March 11 by the scammer who was posing as a Natwest customer services representative, who informed the victim his bank cards had been blocked and arranged to collect them from him and deliver new ones.

He gave out his pin details and half an hour later a man, who was black and of small and stocky build, arrived at the front door to collect the cards.

Officers said they were unsure whether any money had been taken from the accounts and all cards belonging to the victim had now been blocked.

Police also added they would never ask for pin details or bank cards in this way.

In order for residents to prevent themselves falling victim to the crime they should never divulge their pin, cancel their card immediately if they do, contact police on 999 or 101 and to always check a warrant card for officers who arrive at their door.

Anyone with further information on this offence can contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or by calling Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
