MALVERN school student Danielle Hopkins put on some strong performances for Herefordshire and Worcestershire at the annual Mason Trophy competition in Birmingham.

Held at the Alexander Stadium on Saturday, The Chase School pupil gained English Schools’ Athletics Association entry standards in three events.

The Junior Girls competition saw Hopkins secure second place in the high jump with a height of 1.69m and second in the long jump with a leap of 5.29m.

Hopkins then helped the Junior Girls 4x100m relay team secure an ESAA standard time of 51.6s despite finishing the race in sixth.

The Mason Trophy also serves as an indicator for selectors to choose their team for the final and main event in the schools’ athletics calendar, the ESAA National Track and Field Championships which are being held in Gateshead next month.
