TERRY JENKINS will battle it out against reigning double World Champion Gary Anderson on Wednesday night in the second round of the PDC World Matchplay in Blackpool.
The 52-year-old Ledbury darter punished Justin ‘The Force’ Pipe for 32 missed doubles as he claimed a 10-7 opening round victory at the Winter Gardens on Sunday.
Pipe opened the contest with a 160 checkout and pulled out an 11-dart leg to take a 4-2 lead followed by a 12-dart leg to take a 6-5 advantage.
However, The Bull tidied up finishes of 66 and 90 respectively to move into an 8-6 lead before closing out the victory.
Jenkins, a two-time World Matchplay finalist, said: “It was a battle but I got there in the end. As soon as Justin started hitting some things I started playing with him, and I suppose I followed his game instead of playing my own.
“I relied on him missing a few things and I came out the winner, but it was a very hard struggle.
“I can relax now and it will be easier for me in the next game. I’ve done well here before and I relish playing the best players.”
Anderson set up a tie with Jenkins after he stormed past Alan Norris 10-1 with an average of 101 after reeling off ten straight legs, including a fine 139 checkout, a 108 finish and four 14-dart legs.
The pair have played each 20 times, with both winning ten each.
Anderson added: “Terry’s a thorn in my side but I’ve got a lot of respect for him. He’s a classy player and he doesn’t give you an inch.”
