A HOSPICE nurse with 25 years dedicated service to patients and families in Worcester has been presented with a prestigious award.

Marina Dixon, a Clinical Nurse Specialist with the Community Nursing Team at St Richard’s Hospice, was awarded the Cavell Star.

Cavell Star Awards are given to nurses, midwives, nursing associates, and healthcare assistants who show exceptional care to patients, patients’ families, and colleagues.

Mrs Dixon, who has worked for St Richard’s for 25 years, said: “None of us can work in isolation and St Richard’s is a team of people: from the volunteers who began the hospice, to our wonderful team now who give their kindness to each person they see.

“We are a team, and that’s the only way it works. Thank you for letting me work within that team for so long. It’s been quite an amazing journey.”

Mrs Dixon was nominated for the award by her manager Julie Reece, who is head of Community Nursing Services at the Worcestershire hospice.

She was presented with the accolade by Jenny Cowpe, Chair of Governors, who thanked her on behalf of the board and senior management team.

Ms Reece said: “Marina is a mentor for everyone within the hospice team, and the community neighbourhood teams.

“She has a knowledge of palliative care which is second to none, and which she gladly shares.

“Time and again, she has gone above and beyond her role to ensure the best possible care for her patients.

“We cannot overestimate the impact Marina has had on palliative care in Worcester, and especially in community nursing.

“She is a light for us all. We look at the ethos of the hospice, and its values, and she is a living embodiment of that.”

The specialist Community Team at St Richard’s is made up of experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists, Senior Staff Nurses, and Hospice at Home Healthcare Assistants.

The team provides care to patients in their homes, in their GP surgeries, clinics, at the hospice, and virtually by phone and video call.
