County's pubs and restaurants can serve indoors as PM confirms next stage of roadmap

WORCESTERSHIRE’S pubs and restaurants will be able to re-open fully next Monday (May 17), Prime Minister Boris Johnson has revealed.

Speaking at a Downing Street news conference in the past hour, Mr Johnson confirmed England would move on to stage three of the Government’s Coronavirus ‘road-map’.

As well as indoor hospitality, weddings, funerals, receptions and wakes will all be able to welcome 30 guests from Monday.

Galleries, theatres, cinemas and soft play centres can also reopen while still adhering to Coronavirus restrictions such as social distancing.

The Prime Minister said all remaining accommodation including hotels, hostels and B&Bs can reopen from Monday.

Domestic overnight stays will be allowed in groups of up to six people or two households. 30 people will be able to attend a support group or parent and child group. The limit does not include children under five.

Care home visiting will be eased further, with residents able to have up to five named visitors and greater freedoms to make low risk visits out of the home.

People will be able to meet outdoors in groups of up to 30 people and meet indoors in groups of up to six or as two households.

“I must ask you to continue following social distancing, whenever not with friends or family,” the Prime Minister said.

“We must remain vigilant, this is the single biggest step on our roadmap.”

Infections rates among students and staff continue to decrease in line in the nation’s schools meaning face coverings will no longer be recommended in classrooms or in communal areas in secondary schools and colleges from Monday.

Twice weekly home testing will remain to control infection rates.

All remaining university students will be eligible to return to in-person teaching and learning and should get tested twice a week upon their return.

All legal limits on social contact lifted by June 21 if the Government’s conditions such as continued vaccinations, reduced infection rates because of the vaccine and no significant concerns over variations of the infection, are met.

When asked about the potential lifting of all restrictions, Mr Johnson said: “We are going to wait and give more detail and more guidance on exactly what we mean by the end of social distancing at the later this month.”
