A TALK will be given on the history of Worcester Cathedral in the latest event to have been orgainsed by the city’s Civic Society.
The presentation by guest speaker Howard Robinson will take place at St Peter’s Baptist Church, Eden Close, at 7pm on Thursday, March 15.
The building, which dates from between 1084 and 1134, plays a lively part in today’s world with services, concerts, guided tours and exhibitions.
As well as relating interesting and informative details about the actual structure with its Chapter House, Mr Robinson, will be talking about some of the famous people associated with the Cathedral.
These include, among others, King John who worshipped here, Prince Arthur, Henry VIII’s older brother and husband of Katherine of Aragon, the Duke of Hamilton, Edward Elgar and the Reverend Geoffrey Anketell Kennedy, also known as Woodbine Willy.
Mr Robinson, was for many years a Secondary School Science Teacher in Framlingham, Suffolk.
After he retired he and his wife moved across country to be nearer his wife’s family in Cheshire and also two of his daughters and their children one of whom lives near Birmingham, the other one near Oswestry.
He is passionately interested in the history of Worcester Cathedral where he is a guide in his spare time.
The talk is free to attend and open to members and non-members. There is ample free parking in the church car park
