A FUND-RAISER to support a Worcester youngster whose mum was killed has raised more than five times its original target.
More than £1,500 has been donated to the fund to support the daughter of a 28-year-old Diglis woman whose body was recovered from the River Severn last Wednesday (February 10).
The woman has not been named formally and her daughter cannot be named for legal reasons.
Family friend Sophie Pugh organised he fund-raiser for the youngster ahead of her birthday this weekend.
“Let’s try and make this little girl’s birthday a special one,” she wrote.
“At such a young age, I cannot start to think about what the little girl may be going through.
“I am in contact with the little girl’s family and have made them aware of what I am doing.”
Police cordons were placed around addressed in Waterworks Road, Cheviot Close and on the Diglis footbridge following the incident last Wednesday.
A search of the River Severn began and officers discovered the woman’s body.
Charles Byrne, 24, from Waterworks Road was charged with murder and attempted murder the following day.
After appearing at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Friday, Mr Byrne was remanded in custody ahead of a preliminary hearing at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday.
Senior Investigating Officer, Det Chief Insp Dean Jones, said: “Unfortunately, we have located the body of a woman in her 20s in the River Severn during our searches. Her family has been informed, but formal identification has not yet taken place.”
“I can confirm we are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.”
