CHARITIES across south Worcestershire were among those to receive a share of £14,000 in grant funding as the Prime Foundation marked £100,000 in donations to good causes.

Since being established in 2007, the foundation has given away the sum to projects which help improve health and well-being.

It invests in communities where Prime, a health and care property developer, has built new venues using a proportion of profits, ensuring money is invested locally for good causes with each new scheme.

Friends of Fort Royal Community Primary School, ASPIE, Evesham Adventure Playground Association and the STARS Adult Day Centre were among six county causes awarded a grant. Fort Royal School in Worcester caters for 240 children and was in desperate need of upgrading and adding to its collection of musical instruments.

But thanks to £500 in grant funding and support from Worcester Round Table, the school was able to purchase enough equipment to provide all 21 classes with a selection of new percussion instruments

Grant administrator Margaret Jones said: “For our children who are non-verbal, music opens up a new range of techniques that can be used to encourage their communication skills where they can have fun and begin to articulate and mimic sounds.”

ASPIE Ltd is a social, support and therapy group in Worcester which provides vital services to adults who live with the complexities which come with Asperger’s.

Thanks to Prime grant, the group were able to replace their much-loved pool table.

Founder Julie Micklewright said: “The grant was appreciated as the pool table is a great ice breaker.

“New people not comfortable in joining in with what’s going on can play pool without making eye contact or speaking until they feel relaxed enough to do so.”

Evesham Adventure Playground Association received funding for equipment and training to support sessions where children are taught how to build adventure playgrounds while STARS Adult Day Centre was boosted with cash for IT equipment to run its Skills4Me programme.

Hannah Cashmore, a member of the Prime Foundation Board of Trustees, said: “The projects we have chosen all aim to improve health and wellbeing by enriching the lives of people living and working in Worcestershire.

”We hope the impact of this funding can be felt across local communities who, now more than ever, could very much use the support.”
