Restriction lifting means mums-to-be across Worcestershire can now have partners at all antenatal appointments

MUMS to be across Worcestershire can now have partners at all antenatal appointments and scans after health chiefs lifted the ban which had been introduced at the start of the pandemic.

During the coronavirus pandemic, only mothers-to-be have been allowed in for their scans while the other expectant parent or chosen birthing partner had to remain outside.

Stringent controls on partners entering the hospital during labour and visiting post-birth had also been in place as Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust joined health chiefs across the country in tackling possible Coronavirus infections.

A slow easing of the bans began in August with an ease on visitors following the arrival of a baby and last month saw mums-to-be allowed to have their partners at scans, subject to a negative Covid test.

From Monday (April 19), partners are now allowed to accompany mums to all antenatal appointments and scans.

There are a couple of exceptions, including glucose tolerance tests and early pregnancy appointments.

A trust spokesperson said: “Your partner may need to wait outside until your appointment, to help us maintain social distancing, but you will be advised on the day.

“We also ask you both please wear a surgical face mask when visiting our sites. These are provided at all entrances if needed.

“Regardless of whether you have any symptoms of Covid-19, we will need to test both you and your partner ahead of the appointment/scan if you would like them to accompany you.

“Test results, whether positive or negative, will impact how we manage your care, and indicates if it is safe for you and others if your partner accompanies you.”

Partners are also able to attend fetal medicine outpatient appointments and can remain with mums during the birth.
