WORCESTERSHIRE charity ONSIDE is encouraging people to sign up as volunteers and support its Plus (People Like Us) project to overcome loneliness and isolation.
Plus is a service which works across the county to support adults of all ages who are experiencing significant loneliness or isolation. Plus enables individuals, through confidence building and moral support to connect with others and become more active and engaged in their communities.
Support will include mentoring and coaching to build confidence, sourcing information, accompanying to activities, exploring opportunities such as training or volunteering and provision of opportunities for mutual and peer support. The aim is for this one-to-one support to be up to six months in duration.
Free training would be given to carry out the role and ONSIDE have the benefit of a volunteer team to support volunteers along with a dedicated member of the Plus team.
ONSIDE Plus Volunteer Co-ordinator, Laura Wisdom, said “Our volunteers give their time, passion and enthusiasm. This is a great time to volunteer in this exciting role which is very worthwhile and extremely rewarding.
“We are currently supporting people who may not have left their homes for two years and it’s exciting seeing the changes as they re-engage with their communities, local activities and other people.
“Volunteers are ordinary people of all ages and backgrounds, they just need to have compassion and have some time to give.”
