Worcestershire Planting Trees for the Jubilee

Malvern Editorial 5th Oct, 2021   0

TO MARK Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, The Lord-Lieutenant is inviting Worcestershire to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

The initiative is part of The Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique, UK-wide tree planting project aimed at creating a lasting legacy in honour of The Queen’s lifetime of service to the Nation.

The Lord-Lieutenant, Lt Col Patrick Holcroft LVO OBE, wishes to encourage Worcestershire’s councils, towns, businesses, communities, schools and residents to take part in this initiative and plant trees from 1st October through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.

“I hope that everyone who can, will plant a tree in honour of The Queen and help to build a legacy for Worcestershire.”

The Lieutenancy and Worcestershire County Council (WCC) began work on this project at the end of 2019, and WCC has already identified 2 sites and began planting on its 10-acre site at Bewdley in the Autumn of 2020.

A further site near Evesham of 150-acres has been identified and development planning is now underway.

Schools and Community groups are particularly encouraged to become involved.
