Worcestershire wide plea to help the Ukrainian refugees settle

Malvern Editorial 20th Jun, 2022   0

A MAJOR county-wide appeal to support Ukrainian refugees who are being hosted by local families across Worcestershire has been launched.

In recognition of the more than 550 Ukrainian refugees due to settle in the county, Worcestershire Community Foundation (WCF) is working closely with Wychavon and Malvern Hills District Councils, where the majority are expected, as well as local community groups to ensure local cash donations to this appeal go to directly meet the needs of those being hosted by local families.

Funds raised could also go towards helping host families support those staying in their homes. Funding has already been pledged by the Bransford Trust to help support an English skills programme.

Chair of WCF, David Shaw said: “At WCF we are really keen to play our part in helping to ensure the lives of those coming to Worcestershire from war-torn Ukraine receive the best possible care and support during what is undoubtedly an extremely stressful time for them.

“We are working with local agencies to ensure any funds raised go to those who need it most and make the greatest impact on helping them rebuild their lives whilst living in Worcestershire.

“We are urging funding organisations, individuals and businesses to support this scheme to the best of their ability so we can really make a difference.’

Whilst this appeal is to gather cash donations, not goods, WCF is encouraging anyone who can also offer pro bono support to the refugees or host families to also get in touch, so they can help to connect these services where they are most needed.
