A ‘FABULOUS’ village green improvement scheme in Ledbury has scooped £1,500 after coming top of the tree in a prestigious national award.

The Pool Piece project saw off competition from across the country to claim top spot in the ‘Recreation’ category at The Biffa Awards 2015 at the Coventry Transport Museum.

Community Voluntary Action Ledbury and District were handed a £28,000 grant from Biffa Award to help fund a range of community activities at the site which have included a children’s play area, seating, activity space and meeting area.

The subsequent prize money will also go to develop the project.

Gillian French, Biffa Award programme manager, said: “The Biffa Awards are a unique opportunity to celebrate and reward the dedicated people who are delivering some of the excellent projects we have funded.

“All of our projects deserve recognition for the work they do, but we are delighted for the Community Voluntary Action Ledbury and District on their success at this year’s awards.

“Pool Piece is a fabulous space, the community should be really proud of all the hard work that went into its creation.”

The Biffa Awards 2015 recognised the people who ‘build communities and transform lives’ through Biffa funded projects.
