LEDBURY darts ace Terry Jenkins will be hoping he is not the sport’s nearly man once again when his 2015 World Darts Championship campaign gets underway this weekend.
The 51-year-old, who has been runner-up in nine major PDC televised finals, takes on Australian qualifier John Weber in the first round at the Alexandra Palace at 9pm on Saturday.
Weber, 42, earned his place at darts’ biggest event by winning the Oceanic Masters last month.
Jenkins hit the headlines at last year’s tournament when he hit a magnificent 9-dart finish in the opening round, only to be defeated in the same match 3-2 by Per Laursen.
‘The Bull’, who is a 100-1 outsider to win the tournament, has enjoyed a decent season so far, reaching two major finals.
At the UK Open he lost to Adrian Lewis and at the European Championship he was defeated by world number one Michael van Gerwen.
