Malvern thrash Shrewsbury to return to winning ways

MALVERN’s Director of Rugby David Irish said he was thrilled with the way his team got back to winning ways after thrashing a depleted Shrewsbury side.

The Spring Lane club hit top form on Saturday (November 28) winning 81-0 to progress through the Intermediate Cup.

Shrewsbury were unable to field their strongest side due to administration reasons and the home side took advantage.

Richard Fleming scored a number of tries during the emphatic win as did Dave Smith, Luke Milton, George Withers, Ben King and Laurie Essenhigh.

It was a welcome win for Malvern who a week earlier fell to a 22-14 league loss to Pinley.

Director of Rugby David Irish was delighted with the way his team played, despite the weakened opposition and the dreadful conditions. “We needed a good win and today we bounced back in style in the cold and wet.

“Shrewsbury were unable to field a full strength side due to administrative errors but played a full part in proceedings, never giving up.

“However, they met a Malvern side for whom everything clicked on the day, and we need to carry this form forward.”

Malvern return to league action on Saturday (December 5) when they entertain league leaders Banbury. Malvern are currently 7th in the Midlands Two West (South) division.
