A SPECIAL foundation stone has been unveiled to mark the completion of the first phase of a brand new retirement village for the town.

MP Harriett Baldwin attended a ceremony with town dignitaries at the £20 million development in Malvern Link to celebrate the new extra care village being built by Festival Housing.

The Clarence Park venue will consist of more than 100 apartments within a community village environment featuring leisure facilities, a restaurant, bar, gym and wellness centre.

Residents based at the former sheltered accommodation site will also be able to enjoy the library, beauty salon, IT suite and craft workshops.

Speaking after the ceremony, Mrs Baldwin said: “With the elderly population growing as quickly as it is, I believe it is important to offer extra care housing, particularly as it offers flexibility for elderly people, especially couples.

“This development heralds the start of extra care development in Malvern and I know we will need many more of these projects across the country.”
