Malvern pays its respects

HUNDREDS of people paid their respects to fallen heroes during services across two days in Great Malvern.

On Sunday (November 10), a Remembrance ceremony took place at Malvern Library where wreaths were laid at the War Memorial and buglers from Malvern Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade Band played the Last Post before a two-minute silence.

A parade then took place from Graham Road through Church Street to Malvern Priory for a service led by Rev John Barr. Groups then marched back to Graham Road for mayor Julian Roskams to perform the salute and address the parade.

Another service was held on Monday (November 11) at the War Memorial which again saw the Last Post performed to signal a two-minute silence before dignitaries and guests laid crosses at the statue.

An annual service taken by Rev Nicholas Menon assisted by Rev Rosemary Herbert at St James’ Church saw members of the congregation enjoying a slice of the Poppy cake, followed by a lunch and entertainment at the Royal British Legion Club in Lower Road.

Gordon Hodgkiss was given a certificate in recognition of 50 years’ service with the RBL and Richard Hammond handed over £1,000 to representatives of the Malvern Hospital Scanner Appeal, raised through donations which he had asked for instead of presents for his birthday.
