AROUND 80 bicycles were security marked at crime awareness event over the weekend.

More than 300 visitors attended the Protect Your Property day at Malvern Retail Park on Saturday (November 16).

The event was a joint enterprise between West Mercia Police and Malvern Hills Community Safety Partnership.

More than 60 crime prevention devices were give out on the day including bike locks and attack alarms, and Halfords also provided discounts on cycle lights and security items.

It was also an opportunity for people to meet their neighbourhood police officers and youngsters were given a chance to try the sirens on the force’s new Land Rover Discovery.

PC Dave Wise said: “The aim of the event was to offer general security advice to the public.

“It was a great opportunity to show criminals that we take crime prevention seriously and even in a low crime area, it shows potential offenders that we aren’t a soft touch.”
